Our complete setup includes: Restringing - Strings not included (We carry Elixir, Martin, Ernie Ball, D'addario) Cleaning/polishing frets/fingerboard, oiling unfinished fingerboards (such as rosewood) Adjustment of the truss rod, saddle and nut to set the action how you like it. Cleanup/slotting the nut to set string height and eliminate binding, Tighten and clean hardware, etc... We vacuum the inside out, then clean and polish the entire instrument.
A good setup usually means the difference between a guitar that plays well and one that doesn't. Even inexpensive guitars can be setup to play right.
The saddle and nut are what transfer the vibration of the strings into the wood. Plastic is used on many guitars these days, and swapping it out for a well fitted piece of bone can greatly improve tone. Most players notice a boost in top end, clarity and overall sustain.
We make bone nuts and saddles to custom fit your acoustic guitar. We charge $50 for a nut, $30 for a saddle. (add $10 for compensated saddle) Each nut is carefully hand crafted, cut and filed to spec and cleaned up for an attractive appearance. We also offer a package deal where we will make you a new nut and saddle, and setup the guitar for $135.
We do complete fret work, as well. We charge $75 for a detailed fret dress. This will clean up those worn frets, perfectly leveling them out to avoid any high or low spots, twists, or waves that cause mysterious buzzing or dead notes. They will look and feel like they're new. We put a lot more attention to detail into this job than the majority of guitar manufacturers do, so we can say they will be better than new when you get it back.
We charge $120 for a Setup & Fret Dress combo. That's a $20 savings. (This is the most popular option our clients take advantage of.)
If the frets are worn down too far to level them, we can refret the neck. We have several fret sizes available, or we can order any specifc fret wire you like. We'll pull those worn frets out, level and radius the fingerboard so its nice and straight, and install whichever size frets you like. It will virtually feel like a new guitar when we're done. Refrets start at $275. The price varies a little depending on the type of neck. Partial refrets (replacing first five frets, etc...) are cheaper and quoted case-by-case.
The neck pictured above is on a 1955 Martin that Hugh replaced the frets on. The owner has been a loyal client since this job. Yes, we can make that old acoustic in your closet play right again!
We also install and repair acoustic electric pickups. 13th Street Guitars is an official dealer of Fishman, Misi, and Seymour Duncan Acoustic Pickup systems.
We can drill out your strap button for an output jack if you're using a temporary style soundhole pickup. This way your cable isn't hanging out of the front of your guitar.
minor crack repair, fix broken bracing inside the guitar, If your bridge is lifting or popped off, we can reattach it for you.
