Ukulele Repair Setup

We work on a lot of Ukuleles here at 13th Street Guitars. The response to our services has been really good. Through word of mouth alone, we've drawn in many players who needed something done to their uke. We understand and address the needs of this special little instrument, and love to make them play their best.

Whether you just need to put the strings on it, or you need major repairs like the wood is cracked and separating, we've got you covered.

Many ukes have very high action when they're new. This distance of the strings to the frets can make it difficult to play, as well as making it pull out of tune when you fret it. We can tighten that down as well as clean up the frets to make sure it rings every note out clearly. Many ukuleles, including some very expensive ones, come with irregularities in the frets. We can level them out perfectly and polish them up better than new. Same goes for older instruments that are in need of a good cleanup and adjustment.

Everyone wants to amplify their Ukulele these days, as it's really hard to hear them in a crowd. Once we install a pickup, you can plug it into a PA or amplifier and play as loud as you like. This is great if you're performing live or playing out at a jam session.

MiSi Acoustic Trio

Our favorite pickup is the MiSi Acoustic Trio. We've installed many of these into all sorts of ukes. It doesn't use a battery, but it's rechargeable. It weighs almost nothing, and sounds great.
Read more on that here in our projects page. We show one being installed in a KoAloha Tenor.

We also carry Fishman pickups, and can install the Fishman passive ukulele system. It's very difficult to work with a 9 volt inside such a small instrument, and that's how most active pickups are powered. This adds too much weight, and can affect the balance and tone of such a small instrument. That's why most brands go passive. MiSi solved this problem with a NASA designed super-capacitor on board.

So give us a call or drop by with your uke. Let us know what you need. We'll take great care of it.
